Manifest Destiny Encyclopedia Tree Leaves

Posted on July 30, 2012

Manifest Destiny has so many pieces and components, that we could never pull it off without the help and talent of some very wonderful people. The amazing Jan and Brad White of JB Letterpress have generously donated their time and expertise to help us make the leaves for the installation. The leaves are die cut from several sets of vintage encyclopedias, including a 1939 edition of the Encyclopaedia of General Knowledge.Their print shop is amazing, and we are delighted with how the leaves came out.

Make sure to check out their print shop at http://www.jbletterpress.com/

Here Jan speaks about how she got into the business while setting up the custom-made leaf die on the press.

Kickstarter is live!

Posted on June 19, 2012

We have now officially launched our Kickstarter! We have thirty days to meet our $5,000 goal. This is the bare minimum we will need mount this production; so it’s all or nothing! With that in mind, we are making some unique artist-made limited-edition rewards for our patrons and donors (that means you). All the artwork generated for the rewards will be part of the exhibition itself so this is your opportunity to get advance art sales without the gallery mark-up, straight from the artist herself, and be an integral part of helping us pull this off.

Here:

What you really want to see, sample previews of our Kickstarter rewards. Come get some for your very own before it’s too late:

$10-$40 Patrons: Hand lettered names on vintage encyclopedia pages

Front of a sample two-name page with President James Polk, and his wife Sarah Childress. Polk has been called the “least known consequential president”, and his administration embraced the ideology of Manifest Destiny. He was also the first sitting president to be photographed. Each page measures 6.5″ x 9.5″ and is taken from an encyclopedia set published in 1954, first edition dating to 1919.

Every page will be a part of Manifest Destiny; papering the entire entryway of the installation floor to ceiling 12′ high, your names will start this project’s story just as your names start funding it…

$75 Friend-Patrons: Artist altered cabinet photograph

One-of-a-kind, each unique, original antique cabinet photograph cards dating from mid 1800s through early 1900s that have been altered by the artist. Each are dated and hand signed. Most cards measure approximately 4″ x 6″.

..and this is a tiny taste of the truly amazing art that awaits you.

Please visit our Kickstarter page for the full reveal, including sculpted porcelain life-size hearts, books and axes.

Thank you for your interest and support!

Warm regards,

Renée Cinderhouse
